Starting June 2024, Meta will be identifying templates that they believe do not fit the right category based on template category guidelines and will be notifying WABA owners. They will provide a month's notice about the identified change users must expect in the following month and the category will be updated automatically at the start of the following month. This process will occur on the 1st of each month.
Here is the rollout plan for this change:
- June 1: WABA admins will receive email notifications regarding which templates will be updated on July 1. Additionally, via WhatsApp Manager, you can download a CSV reflecting WABA IDs, Template IDs, and category changes.
- July 1: Template categories will be updated, based on the information shared on June 1.
- This process will continue each month, with notices sent out on the 1st for changes effective on the following month (e.g., Jul. 1 notice for Aug. 1 changes; Aug. 1 notice for Sep. 1 changes, and so on).
Please note that marketing and utility templates are in scope of these changes, and changes could involve transitions between these two categories only.
Rest assured, businesses will receive a 1-month advance notice before a template’s category is updated. If you believe that an upcoming change of category is not consistent with Meta template category guidelines, you can request a review.
